For more than 30 years, Cecolfes, under the leadership of its Scientific Director, Dr. Elkin Lucena, has been working constantly for the benefit of couples developing innovative scientific and technological breakthroughs in the area of Reproductive Biomedicine.
We have introduced a new and revolutionary COMBINATION of assisted reproduction techniques with the addition of Hyperbaric Oxygenation, with the main goal of achieving better outcomes with our techniques, including improved pregnancy rates and a higher percentage of healthy babies. For this purpose we have created a state-of-the-art Baro-Room with one of the most technologically advanced one-seat ACR 6072 Leader Life® panoramic hyperbaric chamber.
It is the first time that the benefits of this technique are applied to infertility with the purpose of enhancing outcomes and creating a better quality of life for all.
The treatments are administered by our own specialized technical staff under the guidance of Dr. Elkin Lucena, founding member of the Colombian Association of Hyperbaric Medicine.
Oxygen is a source of life and wellbeing
Impaired nutrient supply to cells and tissues, in particular of oxygen, is a primary factor influencing cell aging and loss of function.
Hyperbaric oxygenation therapy contributes the necessary supply of oxygen to organs and tissues, producing an immediate revitalizing effect and overall improvement of all organ functions.
A large number of diseases and deficiencies are associated with low oxygen levels. The hyperbaric oxygenation chamber promotes oxygen penetration into the bloodstream and plasma of patients breathing pure oxygen at 2 atmospheres, an environment similar to that found 10 meters under the ocean. In this way, oxygen is able to reach oxygen-depleted cells through an entirely natural process.
Hyperbaric oxygenation has been approved by the FDA and the AMA as a medical treatment for improving oxygenxygen tissue levels.
Higher oxygen levels in the tissues translates into long-term beneficial effects, including an increase in the number of blood vessels, enhanced effectiveness of white cells at destroying bacteria and removing toxins, increased fibroblast growth and improved metabolic activity of low-function cells such as neurons. Oxygen also favors the synthesis of prostaglandins, steroid hormones and of the immune response modulator interferon. It modifies the sensitivity of estrogenic hormonal receptors and mediators and, very importantly, it mobilizes stem cells for new tissue and organ regeneration.
A new study reveals that treatments with hyperbaric oxygen mobilize stem cells
According to a recent study published in the American Journal of Heart and Circulation Physiology, treatments with hyperbaric oxygen increase the number of stem cells circulating in the patient’s body by 800%. Stem cells or parent cells play a key role in tissue repair and regeneration after damage sustained by the body. Stem cells exist in the bone marrow and are capable of changing their characteristics in order to incorporate themselves into different organs and tissues. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy provides important stimulation for their mobilization.
“This is the safest clinical means to increase stem cell circulation, far safer than any other therapeutic option”, says the author of the study, Stephen Tom, MD, Ph.D., Professor of Emergency Medicine at Pennsylvania Medical School.
“This study provides information on the fundamental mechanisms behind hyperbaric oxygenation and presents a new theoretical therapeutic option for stem cell mobilization. We reproduced in animals the observations made in humans in order to identify the mechanism for the effects of hyperbaric oxygenation”.
So aside from increasing the number of blood vessels and counteracting the harmful effects of free radicals, stem cell mobilization is another mechanism that explains the effectiveness of hyperbaric oxygen therapy in a wide variety of disorders such as head injury, brain thrombosis, multiple sclerosis, brain damage from lack of oxygen, Parkinson’s disease, cerebral palsy and dementia of vascular origin.
Patients receiving hyperbaric oxygen therapy enter a single-seat clear acrylic chamber where they breathe 100% oxygen supplied under high atmospheric pressure. During the 60 minutes of treatment patients relax or sleep comfortably under careful monitoring by specialized technical personnel with whom they can communicate readily through an intercom system.
Hyperbaric oxygen treatments are safe and painless, although approximately 5% of patients (typically those who suffer from ear ache when flying) may experience slight ear discomfort.
¿Who can benefit from hyperbaric oxygen therapy?
Considering that a wide variety of conditions respond to this treatment, hyperbaric oxygen therapy is used around the world with amazing results.
The use of hyperbaric oxygen chambers is also indicated to improve overall body function and its effects on the skin are obviously amazing in cases of post-surgical healing (plastic surgery) where recovery time is diminished by 30-50% and potential skin infections are avoided. It acts in cases of cellulitis, psoriasis, atypical dermatitis and other dermatological conditions. The end result is overall rejuvenation.
Hyperbaric oxygen treatments are in line with the most modern Anti-Aging medicine guidelines, and they are very important for health recovery and maintenance. |
